Rules & Regulations

  1. The 2019 American International Piano Festival and Competition, organized by the European Foundation for the Support of Culture, will take place at the School of Music, Drama, and Art of the Catholic University of America 620 Michigan Ave NE, Washington, D.C., May 23-26, 2019.
  2. The Competition is open to pianists of any nationality, age 35 and under as of May 26, 2019.
  3. The registration will take place at the TCP desk located in the Ward Hall lobby/reception area (School of Music, Drama, and Art, CUA) on May 22, 2019.
  4. The Competition will consist of three solo rounds (see repertoire requirements), which will take place in Ward Hall at the School of Music, Drama, and Art of the Catholic University of America (620 Michigan Ave NE, Washington, D.C.).
  5. The decisions of the jury are final and not subject to appeal.
  6. The Competition Prize Fund is € 17 000, and prizes will be awarded as follows: 1st Prize — € 10 000; 2nd Prize — € 5000, 3rd Prize — € 2000.
  7. The jury may decide to share any of the prizes except the first prize. The jury may choose not to give some of the awards listed.
  8. Since the places are limited the organizing committee reserve the right to refuse applications after having received the first 50 applications.
  9. All of the rounds are open to the general public.
  10. All the music must be performed from memory.
  11. The organizing committee may cancel the competition in case of too few entries. In the case of cancellation, candidates will be informed promptly, and the entrance fee will be refunded.
  12. All contestants will be required to attend the opening convocation ceremony on May 22, 2019 at 8:00 pm in Ward Hall at the School of Music, Drama, and Art of the Catholic University of America, where the order of performance for all rounds of the competition will be drawn by lot.
  13. Candidates must specify the order of their program performance during registration for printing purposes.
  14. The organizers do not provide any financial assistance or cover any expenses related to travel, accommodation, and meals.
  15. All stages of the Competition may be broadcast live and/or may be recorded for subsequent broadcast, video, audio, or any other format/media use. It is anticipated that recordings of selected Competition performances will be commercially produced for television, and parts of the Competition will be made available on the Internet. Camera crews may film all Competition events. The participants have no right to claim financial requests related to their performances at the competition.
